North Captiva Island, Florida is such a special place; one that vacationers keep coming back to time and time again. After a few visits to the island you’ll learn exactly what to bring to make your vacation run smoothly – however, for those of you who are new to the island, or are hoping for guidance on what to pack, this post is for you! In this post I will cover everything you need to bring with you to North Captiva Island for a fantastic, stress-free vacation.

Must-Pack Items

  • Lots of food + drinks
    • This is super important! There is a tiny grocery store and four restaurants on the island, but you’ll want to pack the majority of the food/snacks/drinks that you’ll need for your vacation. My tip to you is to plan out each meal, and write down all of the ingredients you will need to cook for the duration of your vacation. Some houses will have spices and maybe coffee, but definitely don’t count on it! Click here for our post that goes into great detail about the grocery process! You’ll find all of the information you need about pre-ordering groceries, as well as grocery delivery.
  • Games + books
    • Some rental homes will have boardgames available for guests, but I also recommend bringing some of your own. Some of my favorite boardgames are Sequence, Taboo and What Do You Meme. Of course, always bring a deck of cards for card games!
    • Many rental homes will also have books, but I definitely recommend bringing a few that you’re excited about. Click here for my list of the best books to read on vacation!
  • Clothes + swimsuits – but fewer than you think!
    • The vast majority of rental homes (if not all) come with washers and dryers. The island is super casual, so our advice is to pack light and wash clothes when you need to!
  • Your favorite toiletries
    • Many homes will come stocked with soap and hotel sized shampoos and conditioners. However, if you prefer certain brands, or want to make sure you don’t run out during your trip, I recommend bringing your own! You will also want to make sure to bring your own toothpaste, and any other lotions or toiletries you like to use!
  • Sunscreen
    • You can buy sunscreen on the island at Mangos Store and Boats and Fun – but, again, I recommend bringing your own if you like certain brands, or are looking to save money.

Kitchen Extras

These items are totally optional, but they will come in handy!

  • Reusable Straws
    • These are always super handy to have, and they’re eco-friendly!
  • Reusable ZipLock Bags
    • Perfect for a beach picnic or to take snacks with you for a long walk! Again, I love that they’re eco-friendly!
  • Yeti Cup
    • These are great for keeping drinks cold at the beach, by the pool or while on a golf cart ride! They also have a cover so they won’t spill during your many activities. Additionally, since they aren’t glass, you don’t have to worry about them breaking!
  • Reusable Water Bottle
    • A reusable water bottle is perfect to stay hydrated on the beach, during walks, or while on golf cart rides! Again, this is a great eco-friendly choice!

What Not to Pack

  • Beach chairs + towels
    • Rental homes will have beach towels for guest use! If you’re renting through North Captiva Island Club, you can also sign out beach chairs, for free, to use during your stay!
  • Fancy clothes
    • The island is super casual and you definitely will not need to dress up for anything! The exception to this, of course, is if you’re visiting the island for a wedding or another celebration. Check out our island lookbook for outfit inspiration! For even more outfit advice, also check out our packing guide!
  • Heeled shoes
    • In addition to the island being super casual, all of the roads are sand and not paved! While heeled shoes are of course an option for photoshoots or fancy parties/weddings you may be attending, they are not necessary for a casual North Captiva vacation!

  1. That much be such a wonderfully tiny island with only one grocery store!! I almost always bring my own food everywhere, but it sounds extra important here. Love all the tips in the other post too, so helpful!

  2. Ahhh I love how comprehensive this packing guide is. I always struggle with what to pack and I love how you go into detail and even explain the vibe of the island. For example, I love how you have said it is casual and sandy, so I wouldn’t need to bring heels. That’s so useful! Thank you!

  3. This packing guide makes me sooo excited for the summer travels across the states! Love when my packing excludes fancy clothes, heels and those bulky towels! Thanks for sharing this…
