Hello everyone! Welcome to my carry-on packing guide for two weeks in Argentina. For Christmas this year I will be in Argentina with my boyfriend, Marco, and his family! I’m super excited to explore the country and to spend the holidays somewhere warm. Although it’s December and freezing cold in NYC, it will be summer in Argentina, so I’m looking forward to sunny days and nice temperatures.

Since we’ll be traveling to multiple locations throughout the country, I’m bringing items for temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to the mid-80s – plus some warmer clothes as the nights will be cooler. I’ll be traveling for 17 days, so I’m planning on doing laundry half way through the trip, as this will minimize the amount of clothes I need to take. Because of this, I’m packing enough clothes for roughly ten days. As you know, I prefer to always pack in just a carry-on as I find it to be much easier. This trip I have to cheat a little, and although all the items I need for my trip will be packed in my carry-on, we’re packing all of the Christmas gifts for Marco’s family in a checked bag. Below you will find everything I’m packing for my two week trip! As a disclaimer, I know I’m packing way more than necessary – but, I believe, as long as it fits in my carry-on then I might as well pack as much as I can so that I have lots of options! Happy Holidays!!!

Dresses

I love, love, love to wear dresses. In addition to be super easy to pack, I find them to be super comfortable, and I love that they can be dressy but still casual. For this trip, I will be bringing both casual dresses for the daytime as well as fancier dresses to wear on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. I’m packing eight dresses in total, five casual dresses and three fancier dresses for special occasions.

Bottoms

I love to wear skirts, especially in warm weather, so for this trip I am packing five casual skirts. I am also bringing one pair of black shorts that I can wear with tank tops + sweaters, as well as one pair of jeans and one pair of black pants. Finally, I’m also bringing two pairs of bicycle shorts. These take up almost no space in my suitcase, and they are super comfy and easy to wear with sweaters and t-shirts. It’s important to me that my bottoms match lots of tops, so that I have more outfit options, and therefore neutral colored bottoms (jean + black) are great choices.

Tops

When traveling I always try to bring tops that won’t wrinkle easily. As you can see, I love to pair white crop tops with my pants + skirts. They match everything, don’t take up much space, and also don’t wrinkle easily! I’m bringing three white crop tops on this trip, as well as four tank tops, two dressier shirts, two long sleeve white shirts, two light summery sweaters, and, finally, one white sweatshirt.

Jackets

Because the evenings are cooler in Buenos Aires, and we will also be visiting Patagonia, it is necessary to bring a couple jackets. First, I’m bringing a jean jacket that I can pair with dresses, skirts + pants. I love a good jean jacket, it’s definitely a must for me. Next, I’m also bringing an anorak for windy + rainy days. My anorak is not the best for rain, so I recommend either bringing one that’s super waterproof, or bringing a rain coat. Finally, I’m also packing my puffer jacket that folds up super tiny for packing. This jacket is perfect, as it will be super cold when I leave NYC, and I will also get great use out of it in Patagonia, where it is colder than in Buenos Aires.

Pajamas

Since I plan on doing laundry, I’m packing just two pairs of comfy, summery pajamas.

Bathing Suits

Since this is going to be a warm Christmas I’m, of course, also bringing bathing suits. I’m packing two of my favorites, which I think will be perfect for this trip.

Accessories

In order to pack light, I’m bringing one small black purse that can hold my phone + wallet, and I’m also bringing a larger canvas bag for day trips and shopping. Reusable shopping bags are so important, and it’s super easy to pack + use a canvas bag while traveling. Click here for a super cute canvas bag from Amazon.

For my hair, I’m also bringing one cute headband, two scrunchies + a pink baseball hat. I usually use a straightening brush for my hair, but due to the fact that my brush is not adaptable to other power currents (even with a power adaptor), I chose not to bring it on this trip. Instead, I am bringing my Luv straightener, that I have used in tons of countries and never had a problem. Be sure that your styling tools will work properly at different voltages before you pack them – otherwise they can catch on fire or get way too hot. You can buy a power adaptor for Argentina here.

Because the nights are cooler, I’m packing two pairs of tights to pair with my dresses + skirts.

Finally, don’t forget your sunglasses! I finally invested in a good pair this year, and it’s made a huge difference.

Shoes

For this trip I’m bringing a mix of shoes for the variety of locations we will be visiting. Most all of the shoes I’m bringing are neutral colors so that they will match more than one outfit. First, I’m bringing my favorite pair of sandals (that match almost everything), as well as my tan block heels that match all of my dressy outfits. Next, I’m bringing two cute pairs of slides that I am currently obsessed with from Luca and Grey – you can check them out here (order a 1/2 size up, they run small). Finally, I’m packing one pair of Fila white sneakers, as they are the perfect shoes to wear for exploring and long days of walking.

Toiletries

In addition to my regular makeup products (read more about those here), I am also bringing shampoo + conditioner bars, as well as a face wash bar in order to limit my usage of plastics.

Extras

Laundry Bag

This is so important – with a travel laundry bag you can easily keep your clothes organized and sorted. No more dirty clothes spread throughout your suitcase! Click here for another cute laundry bag option.

Hand-wash detergent

This travel-size, pre-measured detergent is fantastic! You can quickly and conveniently wash clothes in your sink and hang them up to dry. I’m pretty sure I’ll find a place to wash clothes during my trip – but if not, this is a great back up.

Shoe Bag

These travel shoe bags are great for keeping your shoes away from your clean clothes.

Wrinkle Release Spray

I take this wrinkle release spray on all of my trips. It’s travel-sized and the perfect way to quickly remove wrinkles without having to iron or steam your clothes! It works so well, and I highly recommend that you try it!

Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

I started using shampoo + conditioner bars recently in order to cut down on my consumption of single use plastics. Not only are these shampoo bars way better for the environment, but they are also free of all chemicals + sulphates, so they’re good for you too! I’m currently using the Shea Moisture bars (that I bought from TJMaxx). I really like the Shea Moisture bars, but they don’t come in a metal carrying cases, unlike many other bars. Lush also sells shampoo + conditioner bars (with metal cases) that have great reviews – you can check those out here. Shampoo + conditioner bars last for a super long time, and they are great for living a more eco-friendly life.

Reusable Straws

These are a must for me no matter the destination. They are super easy to pack and barely take up any space – plus, they come with cute travel cases. Reusable straws are a super easy way to help save the environment.

Polaroid Camera

I got my Polaroid camera a few years ago and I need to use it more! It’s really so fun and I love having printed, unedited photos. I’m buying lots of extra film and bringing it on this trip so that I can take tons of photos.

Thanks so much for reading!! I hope this guide helps you pack for your trip to Argentina!

  1. I pack a carry on for short trips under a week, but my goal is to be able to do that for longer trips – I’ll be referring to this for my next trip! Thanks for writing it, and enjoy your trip to Argentina!

  5. I would loooove to get to Argentina one day! Hopefully we can make it there via our van, but we’ll see. This is a great packing list! I’ll save it for later! x Bri

  6. Great tips on how to pack so much into such a small bag. I travel with way too much stuff usually and although I’m getting better, I will definitely take note of some of your ideas

  7. I like your thinking…as long as it fits there’s no reason not to pack it! I always worry about not having something I want to wear and that is comfortable so I tend to bring more than I need, but as long as it fits its a go!

  8. It is so difficult to pack light when you have an occasion where you have to dress up nicely! Good job on keeping it minimal 🙂 Love the idea of the shampoo bars!

  9. I’m planning to do Argentina next year if all goes well. This really helped guide me to packing for just a carry on to make it easier to travel in between places instead of lugging around a huge suitcase!
