This winter, I had dinner at the recently remodeled Inn At Burklyn in East Burke, Vermont. This inn is a wonderful addition to the town and I am excited to share my review of The Inn At Burklyn’s Nighttime Dining!

The Inn At Burklyn was built as the private residence of Elmer Darling in 1908, and the property has passed through many families since. In 2018 the out-of-state Crone family purchased the property and have since converted it into an upscale bed and breakfast.

Although I have never stayed at the inn, they are offering dinner for non-guests on certain weekends. We made a reservation about two and a half weeks in advance and we were incredibly excited to have dinner at The Inn at Burklyn! For reservations, reach out to the inn directly at 802-626-1111.

Food

The inn offers a 5 course dinner including a choice of appetizer, first course, second course, entree, and dessert. Dinner at the inn is currently $75 per person, not including alcohol or gratuities. This is definitely a place to save for special occasion or celebration!

Appetizer, First Course, & Second Course

For the appetizer, I opted for the celery soup. While I enjoyed the soup, it was a bit salty for my liking. That being said, my mother and grandmother loved it and also raved over the oysters on the half shell.

Everyone received the same salad which was served on bib lettuce and included chopped apples, lettuce, grapes, walnuts, crumbled bleu cheese, and a tarragon vinaigrette. All four of us loved the salad and ate every bite! For the second course I picked the artichokes & asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Every bite was delicious and the vegetables all tasted very fresh. The only critique I have of these courses is the portions were too large to finish!

Main Course & Dessert

For the main course my mom and I ordered the stuffed sole normande while my father and grandmother ordered the roasted sirloin. Both dishes were prepared perfectly and incredibly tasty. The sole was light and paired beautifully with the sauce, and the sirloins were cooked to perfection. My entree was so delicious I dug right in and forgot to take a picture!

Finally, we were served our dessert (always my favorite part of the meal!). My blueberry pie was incredible! Instead of a traditional pie, I was served a deconstructed version with flaky pastries, blueberry compote, and three mini scoops of vanilla ice cream. While my first choice isn’t typically blueberry, this blew me out of the water and I ate every single bit!

Because the portions were so large we needed to bring home leftovers! We were more than pleasantly surprised when our waitress returned with reusable to-go containers! This small but important reduction of waste greatly added to my experience.

Overall, the food was delicious and I definitely would recommend dining at The Inn at Burklyn.

Atmosphere

As you can imagine, the remodeled mansion is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. When we entered the mansion, we were encouraged to look around and peak into the rooms which was a treat!

We were seated in the main dining room, which felt very luxurious and vintage. Another couple visiting the mansion for dinner were seated in the breakfast room. Although still beautiful, I much preferred the aesthetics and elegance of the main dining room.

The foyer at the inn was gorgeous. Even though it was January, I loved the holiday touches – everything was so picturesque! We were welcome to sit here while waiting for our table.

We didn’t spend time in the other rooms at the inn because they were for overnight guests only, however they did allow me to take photos!

Overall, we all loved the atmosphere. It felt truly elegant and special. I would highly recommend visiting the Inn at Burklyn even just to see how beautiful the property is!

Overall Experience

I truly enjoyed my experience at dinner at the Inn at Burklyn. Although the service was not as fantastic as the ambiance, this was easy to overlook. This all being said, I will definitely be returning to the Inn at Burklyn!

I hope you enjoyed my review of The Inn at Burklyn‘s nighttime dining! I highly recommend checking out this gorgeous mansion if you are ever in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont!
