Welcome back to our ~college section~!!I know that as an incoming freshman, I would watch Youtube videos and read blog posts about “dorm room essentials”. Today, I want to share some of the items that I see as dorm room/apartment essentials for college students! I will include some basic items, but I also am going to share things that are unexpected essentials. I’ve linked the items to Amazon for you all!

Water bottles!!

I can never seem to drink enough water at college! Carrying a water bottle to class, to workout, and to have by your bed is absolutely essential. I personally have two water bottles that I switch between. However, my yellow Hydro Flask is definitely my favorite at the moment. Also, they are sustainable! No need to buy single use plastics!

Credit card holder for phone

I almost never carry my wallet with me. Keeping my ID and a credit card in a holder on the back of my phone has been a lifesaver. Not only do you not have to worry about carrying an extra bag, you also always know you have your ID and credit card in case of emergencies.

Makeup Organizer

First semester freshman year I kept all of my makeup, face products, and brushes inside of a giant makeup bag. I finally decided to buy a makeup organizer and it was such a good decision. My morning routine is speedy quick now that I always know where my makeup/skincare products are. Also, the gold + glass case is such a cute addition to my desk! Whenever I am spending a night or two away from my room I can quickly grab the basic makeup supplies I need without any hassle + I never bring unnecessary items.

Bluetooth speaker

Whether you and your roommate(s) just want to have a jam session or if you are pregaming for a night out, a portable speaker is a must! My friends and I love to listen to our Spotify playlists before game days or before heading to a frat party. A bluetooth speaker is a great investment!

FRAT/GOING OUT SHOES!

An absolute necessity. All you need is one pair of shoes that you don’t mind getting trashed. Going to bars or apartment parties is a little different because you might want to wear cute booties. However, never ever wear shoes you care about to a frat party. They will get destroyed even after one night. I also wear my casual going out shoes on game days as they are already dirty and I don’t have to worry about mud, water, etc. getting on them.

Small Fan

This is especially for everyone who does not have A/C in their room! A small fan was the only thing that got me through the first three weeks of September. There are cute options + ones that are more functional – whatever works best for you!

Wall Art

Almost every girl I know going into their freshman year brought a VSCO worthy tapestry and polaroids (myself included). However, I have since found wall art that is much more my style and gives my room a unique touch. I highly recommend thinking outside of the box while choosing decor. Everything around my bed is hand-painted or handmade (shoutout to my big who made the macrame for me!) I have gotten so many compliments on the art around my bed this year!

Cold Medicine

After my first time getting sick at college, I always make sure my room is stocked up with medicine, ibuprofen, band-aids, etc. Being sick away from home is the worst, so make it a little more bearable by having all of the essentials on hand. It’s nice to have DayQuil on hand so you don’t have to add an extra errand to your list when you’re already sick.

Shoe Rack

Although it takes up a chunk of space, I highly recommend getting a shoe rack in order to organize all of your cute kicks! I personally have two in my room – one for shoes I wear often and the other for heels or winter boots. There are so many sizes and kinds of shoe racks so there are plenty to choose from!

Thank you so much for reading! Leave a comment if you have more essential dorm/apartment suggestions! I hope you are liking our new college section! ♡ Maggie
