Hello all! Now that my five months in Vermont have come to an end, I’m traveling back to NYC to begin teaching. From Vermont, I am visiting Montana, and then continuing on to New York. This is my first time flying in over six months, and of course, things are very different. Below you will find the 7 travel essential items you will need for flying during Covid-19. These items will help keep you and other passengers safe, comfortable and healthy!

100% Necessary Items

A Good Mask

This is so important. Most airlines require masks for flying during Covid-19. I recommend bringing a comfortable mask, but also one that you know is well made and will protect you.

Hand Sanitizer

Some airlines provide hand sanitizer, but you’ll definitely want some of your own to use throughout your trip. I love the Dr. Bronner’s Lavender Organic spray sanitizer! But anything with over 60% alcohol content will work.

Travel Size Clorox Wipes/Alcohol Wipes

These are great for wiping down the seats, tray tables, arm rests, your phone and door handles. Clorox wipes are very hard to find in many states, so if they aren’t available use sterile alcohol pads.

Recommended

Disposable Gloves

Very few people on my flight had these, but they made me feel more comfortable.

Face Shields

Again, very few people at the airport had face shields, but I wanted to be as careful as possible. Amazon has tons of face shield options to choose from, and many are very reasonable priced.

Thermometer

It’s a good idea to have a thermometer handy to use during your trip. This way you can make sure you don’t have a fever before you fly home or interact with others.

Clear Travel Pouch

This pouch is perfect for storing all of your essentials for easy access. Plus, since it’s clear, it can hold liquids for TSA screening.

  1. I love the Dr. Bronner’s lavender hand sanitizer. That is my favorite. Except that it leaked a bit in my bag one day and now my bag smells like lavender all the time…wait, that’s not a bad thing. Way better than your usual alcohol smelling sanitizer. Some other great suggestions here too. I’m really getting into buying fun and unique masks

    1. The same exact thing happened to me! It leaked all over my seat on the plane, but I thought I had just unscrewed the cap accidentally or something. Luckily it smells so good I didn’t mind at all!

  2. Handy list especially as I am getting ready to fly. Face mask, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes certainly most helpful! An N95 on plane and in airports would be good.

  3. This is a great list! I need to get more hand sanitizer! (I didn’t know there were travel-sized Clorox wipes but will definitely be needing some of those too…)

  4. This is a great list!! I am opting out of plane travel for the rest of 2020, but if I were opting in, I’d have gloves on also! Not sure why these aren’t being used as much as other things…

  5. Great post! I don’t think I’ll be flying any time soon, and if I do, it will only be within Australia as we have to pay for quarantine when we return!

  6. I haven’t flown yet but when I do this will be a handy resource. I’ve always brought wipes on the plane with me (pre-pandemic) as well as hand sanitizer – and will look into the lavender scented one you recommend.

  7. I haven’t flown since the pandemic locked down my country (Canada) last March. I’m not sure if I will feel comfortable enough to fly this year, but I’m hoping that next summer I will! Thanks for this great list, it’ll be very useful for when I’m finally feeling safe enough to get on a plane. I defs need to get some Dr. Bonner’s!!!
