Hello everyone! The Berkshires is such a fun place to visit for a weekend getaway. There is a ton to do and see, and it’s a great place for couples, families and groups of friends. In today’s post I will be sharing how to spend a fantastic weekend in Berkshires, and all of the fun things to do and see!

The Berkshires, Massachusetts is such a lovely area filled with adorable, quaint New England towns. There are tons of cute inns and hotels throughout these towns and it is such a fun place to spend a couple nights.

In the Berkshires you’ll find a variety of outdoor activities, museums, shops and restaurants – and there is definitely something for everyone!

Sound like the place for you? Keep reading for all of my recommendations for how to spend a great weekend in the Berkshires!

Sleep – Wonderful Hotels in the Berkshires

There are a bunch of inns, hotels and motels all across the Berkshires, and there are so many great options to choose from.

I stayed at The Seven Hills Inn in Lenox, and really enjoyed it! Located about 2 miles outside of the center of Lenox, the Inn is the former home of a wealthy family, and it retains much of its original charm. The grounds are beautiful, and during the summer months there is an outdoor pool for guests to enjoy.

The Inn is separated into three buildings, the Manor House, the Terrace House and the Carriage House. The Manor House is the main building at the Inn, but each house has similar guest rooms. The guest rooms are nicely decorated in a minimalist modern style that I really enjoyed.

The standard rooms are small, but work perfectly well for two people for a weekend! One thing to note is that the walls, in the Manor House specifically, are quite thin, and we could hear every conversation going on in the room next door. The noise was so loud that we asked to be moved to a different room for the second night – which definitely helped with the noise!

Overall, The Seven Hills Inn is a great place to stay and I definitely recommend it. It’s also the sister hotel to the famous Red Lion Inn

The Mount – Edith Wharton’s Home

Located in Lenox, The Mount is the former home of author Edith Wharton.

It is free to visit the grounds, and they make a lovely place to walk around on a nice day! There are beautiful gardens and trails through the woods to explore.

The house currently functions as a museum, and you can purchase tickets to view the home and learn more about its history. I highly recommend touring the home, it was the highlight of our trip! The home is absolutely beautiful, and it is a great way to learn more about the Gilded Age (1870s-1900s) and the life Edith Wharton led as a female author during the time period.

Tickets to tour the home are $20 for adults and $13 for students.

Ventfort Hall Mansion

Ventfort Hall Mansion, located in Lenox, is a gorgeous mansion and Gilded Age museum. Visiting and touring the museum is a fantastic way to learn more about what life was like for wealthy families who lived, or vacationed, in the Berkshires in the early 20th century.

In addition to daily tours, a variety of events take place at the mansion – including the occasional ghost tour – so be sure to check out the events calendar to see what is on the schedule during your visit!

Hiking at Kennedy Park

Located in Lenox, Kennedy Park is home to hiking and walking trails! Open from sunrise to sunset, this park is the perfect place to come for a relaxing walk in nature.

There are a variety of trails that range in difficulty (15 miles of trails total!), and you can easily go on a quick walk, or spend a few hours exploring the trails!

Explore the Quaint Towns

The Berkshires is a relatively large area, made up of 32 towns. I visited the Southern portion of the Berkshires, and the towns are very picturesque.

I definitely recommend exploring both Stockbridge and Lenox. In addition to being adorable towns, they both have museums and historic sites to visit! Stockbridge is also home of the famous Red Lion Inn

We also visited the town of Lee, and it was a nice place to walk around and have dinner. Lee is also home to the Lee Premium Outlet Village, which is a great place to check out for shopping!

Norman Rockwell Museum

Located in the town of Stockbridge you will find the Norman Rockwell Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of the artist’s work!

Rockwell was a painter and illustrator who resided and worked in Stockbridge in the mid 1900s.

You must purchase timed tickets online before your visit to the museum, and tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for college students. I recommend getting your tickets early, as they can sell out.

Check Out Tanglewood

Located in Lenox, Tanglewood is a concert venue and festival space! When I visited the Berkshires, there were no concerts or performances at Tanglewood. However, I recommend checking out their calendar to see if there are any concerts or performances during your trip!
