Hi there! This post is all about fun things to do in Littleton, New Hampshire! Littleton is a town in the White Mountain region of New Hampshire, and although the town is pretty small, there is a lot to do and see in the area. In addition to the shops and restaurants, there are also many outdoor activities, such as hiking the Flume Gorge and the Mount Washington Cog Railway! Littleton, and the larger White Mountain region, is a fantastic place for a weekend adventure. Keep reading for my recommendations for exciting and fun things to do in Littleton, New Hampshire!
Fun fact about Littleton: It is home to the world’s longest candy counter, New Hampshire’s oldest motel, and the world’s oldest ski shop!

Visit Chutters – The World’s Longest Candy Counter
Located on Main Street, Chutters is a must-visit candy store! Chutters holds the title for having the world’s longest candy counter, and it is so fun to fill up a bag with a bunch of delicious candy! In addition to candy, Chutters also sells yummy fudge and a large collection of souvenirs!
Vintage + Thrift Shopping on Main Street
On Main Street there are many vintage and thrift stores to check out – such as Cash Only Vintage and Just L Modern Antiques. In these shops you can find anything from clothing to antique home items! The stores are fun to explore and are definitely worth stopping by.
Note: In addition to the thrift stores, there is also a wonderful jam and olive oil store called White Mountain Canning Company!

Time Quest Escape Room
Escape rooms are so much fun, and while I still haven’t visited Time Quest, it has awesome reviews online! This is a great place to visit with a group of friends, and their escape rooms can accommodate groups of 4-8 people.
Riverwalk Covered Bridge
New England is known for its covered bridges, and the Riverwalk Covered Bridge in Littleton is a beautiful one! From the bridge you’ll have wonderful views of the Ammonoosuc River, and it’s a lovely place to take photos.
Picnic, Fish and Kayak at Moore Reservoir
The Moore Reservoir has multiple access points where visitors can enjoy a picnic, or go fishing or kayaking. During the summer months, the reservoir is a nice place to visit to escape the heat. At this point, there is nowhere to rent kayaks, so visitors do need to bring their own. However, anyone can picnic at the access points and enjoy the water.
Activities in the White Mountain Region
Hike the Flume
The Flume Gorge is a beautiful 2 mile hike that is open daily to visitors. The gorge itself was formed 200 million years ago, and was discovered in 1808. In total, the hike takes around 1.5 hours and includes many uphill portions, stairs and even a covered bridge! I highly recommend taking the hike, it is such a fun activity and the views are incredible! The Flume is a New Hampshire State Park, and tickets are required for entry.
Visit Bretton Woods – New Hampshire’s Largest Ski Resort
During the winter months, Bretton Woods is a great place to ski and snowboard. The mountain has a large number of trails, and there are options for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. They sometimes even offer night skiing!
During the summer months, there is still a lot to do at Bretton Woods, such as canopy tours, mountain biking, and gondola rides!
Ride the Cog Railway
The Cog Railway has been taking trips up Mount Washington since 1869! It’s currently the only cog operating in North America, and is definitely a wonderful ride to experience. The trip to the summit and back is three hours round trip, and along the way riders will see amazing views! From the top, the views are spectacular, and it’s very cool to be able to stand on the top of Mount Washington! Tickets for the cog are quite expensive, around $80, but it’s an amazing experience and I definitely recommend it!
Sleep
The Mount Washington Hotel
The Mount Washington is one of my favorite hotels! It’s a very grand hotel that was built in 1902, and has been operating ever since. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and it is a lovely place to spend the weekend. In addition to the grandeur of the hotel, I also love that it is *rumored* to be haunted. I highly, highly recommend spending a night (or weekend!) at the Mount Washington, and, if you’re feeling brave, request room #314 – it’s the most haunted room in the hotel. Littleton Motel
The Littleton Motel is the oldest motel in New Hampshire! I have never stayed at this motel – but if you’re in Littleton and are looking for a budget friendly option, this is a good choice. While I do think that there are nicer places to stay in the area, it is definitely a unique experience to stay in the oldest motel in the region! Click here for rates and to book!
Eat
For being such a small town, there are many delicious restaurants in Littleton! Below are a few of my favorites.
Breakfast
- Inkwell Coffee and Tea House
- The coffee, tea and avocado toast are really delicious!
Lunch + Dinner
- Schilling Beer Co.
- Schilling’s is a great place for pizza and beer! They have both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the river.
- Chang Thai
- Really yummy Thai food! I love the crab rangoons, lunch bento boxes, and pineapple fried rice!
- Alburritos
- Pretty good Mexican + American food! It’s not authentic Mexican, but the food is good and much of it is locally sourced.
Dessert
- Bishop’s Ice Cream
- Their homemade ice cream is so good! But they’re only open during the summer months.
Schillings
