Hi everyone, and welcome to another NYC sweets post! In this post I’m sharing my favorite donut shops. After sampling tons of donuts across the city, I’ve compiled this list of what I think are the best donuts in NYC! I’ve included donuts at a bunch of different price points, as well as both classic and trendy spots. All of the donuts are delicious and definitely must-try places!

The Doughnut Project

The Doughnut Project is a hip, funky little shop with locations in the West Village and Columbus Circle. They offer an awesome selection of delicious doughnuts, and have tons of different flavors. I love that The Doughnut Project has both traditional flavors, such as Plain Glazed and Old Fashioned, as well as more unique flavors like Chandonut Rose and The Everything Doughnut (an everything bagel donut). I tried the Pumpkin Spiced Cake Doughnut ($4.25), and even though it was huge I could have eaten three, it was that delicious. The doughnuts at The Doughnut Project are a little on the pricey side, between $4-5, but they are definitely specialty donuts, and worth the splurge every now and again. If you can’t make it into their shop they also deliver, so you have lots of opportunities to eat their yummy doughnuts!

The Donut Pub

The Donut Pub is an absolutely adorable, retro-diner style donut shop with locations in the West Village (open 24 hours!) and Astor Place. I visited the Astor Place shop and there were so many delicious donuts on display that it was almost impossible to choose which ones I wanted. I finally decided on the Red Velvet and the Brooklyn Kreme and both were delicious.

Additionally, they are priced super reasonably at only $2.50 each. Definitely stop by either location and try a bunch of their donuts. With such adorable decor at the Astor Place location, its the perfect place to relax, eat some donuts and take some Instagram worthy pics. If you’re not in NYC but still want to try their delicious donuts, The Donut Pub also ships nationwide!

The Doughnut Plant

The Doughnut Plant has tons of shops all across NYC, so you’re sure to have one close(ish) to you! I visited the Queens location and I loved the modern-industrial vibes. The Doughnut Plant has a bunch of different types of donut options (yeast, filled squares, cake, sourdough and doughseeds), and they also offer vegan and gluten free donuts! All of the donuts at The Doughnut Plant looked so good that I ended up getting four (seriously a great decision).

I prefer cake donuts, so I decided to try the Pumpkin & Spiced Pepitas Cake Donut, the Apple Cinnamon Cake Donut, the Cinnamon Sugar Cake Donut and the Carrot Cake Donut (filled with cream cheese frosting!!). They were all so good that’s impossible for me to choose a favorite, and I honestly can’t wait to go back to try all of their other flavors! Although they’re a little expensive at around $4 each, these are probably my favorite donuts in NYC – definitely give them a try. You can also order these donuts for delivery and nationwide shipping!

Doughnuttery

Doughnuttery specializes in bite-sized, delicious donuts. They have three locations in NYC, at Chelsea Market, Columbus Circle Underground Market and the Plaza Hotel. I visited the Columbus Circle location and it was so difficult to decide what flavors to get. At Doughnuttery you will need to buy a minimum of six mini donuts ($6), and with six donuts you can pick two flavors. I decided on the Pumpkin Pie flavor was well as the Vanilla Glazed with Sprinkles. Both were super yummy – the pumpkin is perfect for Fall/Winter, but I definitely recommend also trying the vanilla glazed. I love that these donuts are bite sized, they’re the perfect treat that won’t overload you with sugar!

Dough

Dough features brioche style donuts that are super big, fluffy and delicious. I visited the UrbanSpace location near Grand Central, but there are multiple locations across the city. I highly recommend the Dulce de Leche Donut with Almonds – it was so yummy and the perfect morning treat. There are tons of different flavors to choose from, and although they’re a little pricey at $4 per donut, they are definitely delicious!

Peter Pan Donuts

Located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, when you step into Peter Pan Donut Shop you’ll feel like you’re going back in time. The shop originally opened in 1953, and today it still maintains its charm and character. Take a seat at the counter and enjoy coffee and a donut, or take a dozen home to share! Expect a line on weekends, but don’t worry it moves fast and is so worth it.

We bought a dozen donuts, and they were all delicious! I highly recommend the cake donuts, especially the red velvet and the chocolate. The raised donuts are also great, and you can’t go wrong with choosing a classic honey dipped (glazed) donut. At $1.25 each or $13.99 for a dozen these donuts are also a great deal!

Moe’s Doughs

Located in Greenpoint, this cute shop offers cheap and yummy donuts! This shop has similar old-school vibes to Peter Pan Donut Shop, which is located close by. Apparently the two shops have a long going rivalry, so try both and pick your favorite.

I personally prefer cake donuts, and the chocolate cake donut at Moe’s Doughs was great. I was told by a friend that the blueberry cake donut is also delicious, but unfortunately they were sold out when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. At just $1.10 each, these donuts are definitely a solid option!

Du’s Donuts

Located in Greenpoint, this trendy spot offers delicious specialty donuts. The shop is clean and modern, and all of the donuts looked great! I tried the Blueberry Crumble and the Coffee Cake donuts, and both were delicious. The flavor of the donuts was great and you can really tell that these treats are made with care. At $3.50 for small cake donuts and $4.00 for yeast donuts they are a little pricy, but the quality is awesome. If you’re gluten free you’re in luck, because Du’s also has gluten free flavors for $4.00 each.

Supermoon Bakehouse

Supermoon Bakehouse is probably the most Instagramable bakery I’ve ever seen. It’s super pink and cute, and also very modern. The bakery items are all displayed on a long marble table, and they all looked amazing.

I tired the salted caramel and honeycomb donut, and it was so good – I highly recommend trying it. These delicious, specialty donuts do come with a higher price tag, at $5 each, but they’re big enough to share! Visiting Supermoon Bakehouse is such a fun experience, and it’s a great spot to check out with friends. If you’re looking for delicious donuts and a great place to take photos, this is the spot for you!

The Dough Club

Located in Chinatown, this adorable little shop serves up delicious mochi (rice flour) donuts! These donuts, in addition to being super cute, are delicious. They are light and fluffy and the flavors are amazing. I love that the donuts come in a bubble ring shape, that really makes them the perfect shareable dessert. At around $3 each, or 6 for $16.50, they’re also a relatively good deal!

I highly recommend the berry donut – it’s so good. Starting at 4pm the bakery also serves adorable cat donuts, but there is a limited quantity per day, so be sure to plan accordingly. They are also known for their Ruby Hot Chocolate, which looked amazing. I didn’t try the hot chocolate during my visit to The Dough Club, but I will definitely be back!

Finally, this shop is super Instagramable. Everything from the food to the decor is super cute.

Fan-Fan Doughnuts

Located in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn Fan-Fan Doughnuts is a must visit! This shop has so many delicious flavors to choose from, and they’re all priced at $3-$4 each. My two favorites are the glazed braid and the mango lassi, but you can’t go wrong with any of them! They also have delicious hot chocolate that I definitely recommend trying on a cold winter day!

Erin McKenna’s Bakery

If you’re vegan or if you eat gluten free, this is the place for you! All of the baked goods at Erin McKenna’s Bakery are refined sugar free, wheat free, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, egg-free, kosher and vegan.

I know what you’re thinking – how can baked goods with none of the necessary ingredients taste good. I was also skeptical, but these donuts shocked me. They are pretty yummy! If you’re not sticking to a certain diet, I think that there are much better donuts in the city – but these are a great option for those who need traditional donut alternatives. The donut flavors rotate, but if available I recommend trying the chocolate frosted. At $4.75 each the donuts are a little pricy, but you can buy day-olds in a pack of four for 1/2 off.

Sweet Churros

These delicious churros are located inside the Korean Plaza food court in Korea Town. The churros at Sweet Churros are made and topped right in front of you with tons of different delicious topping combinations. I tried the Marshmallow Lover, with s’mores and melted marshmallows, and it was so good – I highly recommend it. They also have tons of other combinations like Rainbow Cereal and Marshmallow as well as Chocolate Almond. Specialty churro with toppings are $5.50, and you can also get ice cream for an extra $3.50. Definitely check this place out!

  1. This made me crave a donut! So many places to choose from and they all look amazing! I definitely need to visit NYC just to check out these places!

  2. I was just talking about donuts this morning with my hubby. He is French and has only had 1 donut in the US and apparently it was a super greasy one from a cheap shop so he is not a fan! I told him that we must remedy that – there are so many amazing donut shops everywhere – awesome to see NYC has a ton, I would expect nothing less from such a culinary city!
