In this packing guide you’ll find everything you should bring on your trip year round as well as outfit inspiration for what to wear in Puerto Rico!

Sun Dresses
When thinking about what to wear in Puerto Rico, I recommend bringing light fabrics and flowy outfit options. Sun dresses, particularly, are my favorite as they’re cute and easy to dress up or down. I also find them very easy to pack as they don’t take up much space.
While I usually try to re-wear some of my outfits on a trip, in Puerto Rico that’s not always possible. This is especially true in the summer months when it’s so hot and humid that you will inevitably sweat if you go outside. Because of this, I recommend packing a few extra outfits – especially if you don’t have access to a washing machine.

Shorts, Skirts and Tanks – Mix and Match Outfits
In addition to sundresses, jean shorts and tanks are always a go-to for me in PR, especially when I’m going to the beach or wanting a more casual look. Jean shorts paired with a white button down is a great beach or casual outfit option.
If you’re a skirt girl like me, a few lightweight skirts to pair with cute tops are a great choice. These can also be dressed up or down and are very versatile.
I like to bring a selection of neutral tops that pair with both skirts and shorts, making it easy to mix and match outfits.

Matching Sets
I love packing matching sets as they’re fashionable, cute and require minimal outfit planning. Some of my favorite sets have linen pants and a matching button down, but there are also cute skirt and shorts options.
Although it is warm in Puerto Rico year round, in the winter months, especially, lightweight pants are a great option. You’ll also see many people wearing jeans year round. While in the cooler months a pair of jeans may be a nice addition to this packing list, I would advise against them in the summer.

Swimsuits
What’s a trip to Puerto Rico without some days spent lounging on the beach? Puerto Rico is known for it’s beautiful beaches and while enjoying the island you’ll likely find yourself at quite a few.
Don’t forget to bring a swimsuit cover-up for heading back to your hotel, grabbing lunch, or walking around town.

Shoes – Cute and Comfortable
For shoes, I recommend both sandals and a pair of sneakers. Sandals are, of course, great for the beach and you may also want to bring a dressier pair for nights out.
If you’re planning on doing a lot of walking, going on any hikes, riding ATVs, etc, while on your trip, then sneakers are a must. I love a good pair of white sneakers that I can pair with shorts, dresses and skirts.

Extras: Accessories and More
Something I always pack with me when I travel is wrinkle release spray (in the travel size, of course.) This is so helpful for helping de-wrinkle fabric, especially when you don’t have an iron available.
In terms of jewelry, I love anything simple that can be paired with multiple outfits and dressed up or down. However, for a Caribbean island destination, some colorful jewelry is always a fun idea.

Extras – bags and accessories:
- Reef safe sunscreen and face sunscreen
- Small purse
- Beach bag
- Sunhat
- Sunglasses
- Sweater/sweatshirt
- In the winter it gets into the low 70s at night. For nighttime walks, you may be more comfortable with a sweater. Restaurants and hotels are also often air conditioned, so it’s a good idea to have a sweater with you.
Electronics:
- Portable charger for long days of exploring
- Kindle for the beach/pool
When packing for Puerto Rico, the good news is that anything you forget you’ll be able to get on the island. Puerto Rico is part of the US and you’ll find typical US stores like Walmart, Marshalls and Walgreens.
