Booked a vacation to Jamaica and wondering what to pack? You’re in the right place! Welcome to your guide to what to wear in Jamaica, year round.
Jamaica is a tropical paradise, so when thinking about what to wear, most people think “summer clothes.” While that’s mostly true, there are a few other essential clothing items you’ll want to pack to wear in Jamaica.
Let’s get right into what to wear while on vacation in Jamaica!
What to Wear in Jamaica
- Lightweight sundresses
- Lightweight skirts
- Linen pants
- Tank tops and lightweight shirts
- Flowy button down shirts
- Swimsuits
- Swimsuit covers
- Sweaters in the evenings
- In the winter months, especially, it can get chilly and windy at night. You’ll definitely want to pack a sweater or two, especially if you’re going to be out after dark.
- Sandals
- A pair of heels if you’re going to fancy dinners/events
- Sneakers
Weather in Jamaica
Jamaica has a tropical climate with warm, humid temperatures year round. The “coldest” month of the year is January and the hottest is July.
That being said, you’ll get consistently warm temperatures with only slight variations in temperature. Year round, you’ll have lows in the low seventies and highs in the upper 80s.
To avoid the rainy season, although showers are possible year round, visit in the dry season: December – May.
June-November is considered the rainy season. However, it certainly won’t rain all day every day. Instead, short heavy showers/storms are common.
Think About the Activities You’ll Do
When thinking about what to wear in Jamaica, it’s important to keep in mind what types of activities and experiences you’ll be partaking in while in Jamaica.
If you’re going on an ATV tour, a hike, or another more adventurous activity, you’ll definitely want sneakers.
If you’re planning some fancy dinners, you’ll want to add nicer dresses and perhaps a pair of heels.
In general, casual, summer clothing is great. Wear whatever you’re comfortable in to explore, visit the beaches and check out the shops. You’ll also likely be wearing a bathing suit a lot of the time!
What I Wore in Jamaica
Below you’ll find some of my favorite outfits I wore in Jamaica. I definitely favor lightweight dresses as they can easily be dressed up or down for most occasions.
A good, comfortable, platform sandal is also great for the beach and exploring.
Don’t forget to pack swimsuits! I brought a bunch, but 2-3 are probably enough for a 5-7 day trip.
Accessories to Wear in Jamaica
- Beach bag
- Nicer purse for dinner/outings
- Sun hat/baseball hat
- Sunglasses
- Hair accessories
- Jewelry
- I’d leave the expensive jewelry at home, but that’s just a personal preference when traveling.
When planning what to wear in Jamaica you’ll definitely want to make sure to bring a beach bag as well as a nicer purse for going out to eat, shop and explore.
Sun hats or baseball hats are also much needed for days out in the sun, and don’t forget to bring your sunglasses!
Personally, I’m a huge fan of hair accessories, so I love to bring ribbons or clips on vacation to pair with different outfits and beachwear.
Lastly, some casual jewelry is always great for dressing up or adding to outfits. Traveling to the Caribbean is also a great reason to wear some fun, colorful jewelry!
