What to Wear in Aruba
Weather in Aruba
Like I mentioned above, the weather in Aruba is consistently great year round! Aruba is one of those special places where you can book a trip any time of year and know (almost certainly) that you’ll get sunny skies and warm weather.
Aruba is considered to be one of the sunniest islands in the Caribbean! In fact, out of the 26+ islands in the Caribbean, Aruba has the fewest rain days per year. On days that it does rain in Aruba, expect a quick 5-10 minute shower.
What to Wear in Aruba: Daytime
Aruba is a tropical island, so beach-casual outfits are the perfect way to go! Think sundresses, two piece sets, shorts and t-shirts, etc. All of these outfits are great for exploring the island, going out to eat and for partaking in many activities such as a catamaran ride, Jeep tour, visiting Arikok National Park, etc.
For a week long trip, I recommend bringing the following items:
- 3-4 sundresses
- 3 pairs of shorts/skirts
- 1-2 two piece sets
- 5 casual tops
- 1-2 long sleeve linen shirts
- 1 sweater (for the AC)
- 2 pairs of sandals
- 1 pair of sneakers
- 3 pairs of pajamas
- 3-4 swimsuits
- 2 swimsuit covers
- Underwear and socks
- 1-2 hats
- Sunglasses
- Purse
- Beach bag
Sundresses
Sundresses are my favorite outfits to bring on vacation! They’re cute, comfy and can be dressed up or down. I wear sundresses for just about everything and they are definitely my go-to in Aruba.
Two piece sets are another great option! I love that they make assembling a put-together outfit so easy.
Here are a few cute and affordable options:
Shorts & Skirts
Shorts, skirts and casual tops are another great option for daily wear. You’ll definitely want a pair of shorts or lightweight pants for ATVing, off-roading, horseback riding, etc.
Shorts or a lightweight skirt are also great to throw on over a bathing suit.
Here are a few cute and affordable options:
Casual Tops
Short sleeve shirts and tank tops are great to pair with shorts and skirts! Go with lightweight fabrics to help stay cool.
I also recommend bringing 1-2 linen shirts. These are cute, comfortable and will help you stay cool, but also help prevent sunburns.
I like to wear linen shirts (or similar styles) both as part of an outfit and as bathing suit covers.
Lastly, I recommend packing a sweater/sweatshirt for your hotel – the AC can be chilly!
Cute casual tops:
Beachware
Aruba is definitely a beach destination, so be sure to pack lots of beachwear! You’ll need several swimsuits, cover ups and sandals.
For beach accessories, you’ll want a good beach bag as well as other beach accessories like sunglasses, a hat and a good reusable water bottle to keep your drink cold.

What to Wear in Aruba: Evening Outfits
Aruba, for the most part, is a pretty casual island. There are many great casual restaurants and bars to check out in the evenings. However, there are also a great selection of fancier restaurants that you’ll want to dress up for – both in and out of resorts.
I recommend bringing an evening outfit for each night of your trip. They don’t have to be fancy, but it’s nice to change out of your daytime adventure clothes and into a nice evening outfit for dinner or drinks.
For the evenings, I definitely tend to lean towards a dress, a skirt and top or a more elevated two piece set. For shoes, I tend to go with a pair of comfy and cute platform sandals.
Cute evening outfit options:
Sleeping & Relaxing in Aruba
For nights, bring a few pairs of pajamas. Depending on what the AC and blanket situation is in your hotel, you may want long pants/tops or shorts/tanks. I usually bring at least one of each type.
For lounging around your hotel room, a pair of comfy shorts and a t-shirt are also great to have!
Don’t forget underwear and socks!
Shoes for an Aruba Trip
I love traveling in just a carry-on, so bringing a lot of shoes isn’t my favorite when I travel. However, for Aruba you really will need three pairs.
First, you’ll want a pair of casual sandals (or flip flops) for the beach. Next, you’ll want a dressier pair of sandals/shoes for the evening and going out to restaurants. Bonus if these sandals/shoes are comfy and match your daytime outfits! Lastly, you’ll want a pair of sneakers for ATVing, horseback riding, hiking and other outdoor activities you’ll do in Aruba.
Some people like to bring water shoes for rocky beaches and/or snorkeling. Personally, I didn’t bring any and there was never an instance when I wished I had them. Whether or not you bring water shoes is personal preference!
Accessories for an Aruba Vacation
For a tropical vacation you’ll want to bring a variety of accessories. For example, you’ll definitely want a hat, sunglasses, a beach bag, purse, and maybe some fun jewelry.
I usually try not to overpack accessories and instead pack neutral items that match everything. This is mostly because I don’t ever check a bag and, therefore, I have to stuff everything in a carry-on. However, if you have the space, it’s your vacation and you should pack as many accessories as you want!
Q&A What to Wear in Aruba
- Do you need sneakers in Aruba?
- I recommend bringing a pair of sneakers to Aruba. You’ll most likely want them for several popular activities such as ATVing, hiking in Arikok National Park and horseback riding.
- What not to pack for Aruba?
- For an Aruba vacation you won’t need jeans, heavy sweaters or warm clothes. Just one sweater for air conditioned spaces will be fine.
- Is bug spray needed in Aruba?
- I only used bug spray in Aruba when I was hiking in Arikok National Park at sunrise. For the rest of the trip, I didn’t need to use it. However, I probably just got lucky. I do recommend bringing a small bottle of bug spray from home; it will be cheaper than buying it in Aruba.
- Does Aruba get cold at night?
- Aruba doesn’t get cold at night, but temperatures can drop into the mid to low-70s. Without the sun shining, it may feel cooler. I didn’t need a sweater at night, but it’s good to have one just in case, and you’ll also likely use it in air conditioned spaces.
The Best Hotels in Aruba
There is no shortage of wonderful accommodations in Aruba! When visiting the island you’ll find a variety of hotels and all inclusive resorts. There are also AirBnb rentals available.
When thinking about where to stay in Aruba, my biggest piece of advice is to stay close to the water. Aruba is known for its amazing beaches, and in addition to all the other activities the island has to offer, the beach is certainly a big draw for vacationers.
Whether or not you’d like to stay at a hotel or an all-inclusive resort is completely up to your individual preferences and what the purpose of your trip to Aruba is. Personally, I almost always prefer traditional hotels to all-inclusives, as I like to check out as many local restaurants as possible. However, you can’t go wrong with either option!
