What to Pack for Jamaica
Clothing
Overview:
- Lightweight sundresses
- Lightweight skirts and shorts
- Linen pants
- Tank tops and lightweight shirts
- Flowy button down shirts
- Swimsuits
- Swimsuit covers
- Sweaters in the evenings
- In the winter months, especially, it can get chilly and windy at night. You’ll definitely want to pack a sweater or two, especially if you’re going to be out after dark.
- Sandals
- A pair of heels if you’re going to fancy dinners/events
- Sneakers
Cute and casual is the way to go for a trip to Jamaica! Most days, you’ll probably be spending a lot of time in a bathing suit while visiting the beach, pool or rivers, so a few comfortable ones are a must.
Accessories
Vacation is always a great time to wear some fun and colorful jewelry! Personally, I love to wear some cute bracelets and some fun hair accessories, like claw clips or ribbons.
A summer-y purse you can use for shopping, going to dinner, etc. is a must pack as well.
Beach Day
One of the top reasons many travelers choose Jamaica is for the beautiful beaches! If you’re anticipating beach and pool days, be sure to pack all of the essentials.
- Sunhat
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Kindle/book
- Beach bag
- Beach towel
- Most hotels/resorts will provide these, but sometimes AirBnbs don’t
- Bathing suit cover
Adventures and Experiences
If you’re planning on going on any adventures or experiences while in Jamaica, you may want to pack some extra items. For example, if you’re going on a hike to the Blue Hole, you may want workout clothes, like a matching set (in addition to a swimsuit.)
If you’re going ATVing, which I highly recommend, a backpack of sorts, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and closed toed shoes are helpful.
For swimming in the bioluminescent bay, a wet bag for your swimsuit, a waterproof bag for your phone (to take photos underwater) and water shoes are some optional items to pack.
Think about what activities you’ll be partaking in and add to your packing list accordingly.
Extras:
- Quick dry towel
- Wet bag for bathing suits
- Water shoes
- Underwater camera bag
- Drawstring backpack
- Workout set
Toiletries
Most hotels and resorts will provide shampoo, body wash, conditioner and moisturizer, but if you have preferred brands, definitely bring your own.
In addition, don’t forget sunscreen, a good face wash, and whatever makeup products you’ll use on the trip.
- Travel size shampoo and conditioner
- Or refillable bottles for your own products
- Body wash
- Moisturizer
- Travel sunscreen
- Face sunscreen
- Wrinkle release spray
- This stuff is amazing!!
- Hair ties
- Claw clips
Technology
Jamaica uses the same outlets as North America, so if you’re traveling from Canada, Mexico or the US, you won’t need to bring adaptors. Some hotels also have U.K. plugs, but I wouldn’t rely on this. Instead, definitely pack a couple adaptors.
In addition to adaptors, be sure to pack:
Q&A: What to Pack for Jamaica
- Can I wear jeans in Jamaica?
- Nights can be cooler in Jamaica, so pants are good to bring, especially in the winter. However, I’d personally opt for a pair of lighter pants (think linen) instead of jeans.
- Do you need a jacket at night in Jamaica?
- A sweater is great for when the sun goes down, especially in the winter months. It can get especially windy on the beach.
- Do I need bug spray in Jamaica?
- I didn’t bring bug spray and had no issues with bugs anywhere I traveled in Jamaica. However, many people say it’s super buggy (I guess I just got lucky), so bug spray is probably a good idea. Mosquito season is June-November.
