Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas is a must-visit roadside attraction!
Located West of Amarillo, just off of Route 66, you will find these ten, antique Cadillacs buried hood-first in the desert.
Sounds cool, right?
Cadillac Ranch opened in 1974, and has been attracting visitors ever since. From the highway you’ll be able to see this unique art installation, and I definitely recommend stopping by for a quick visit.

Cadillac Ranch – Important Visitor Information
1: It’s free!
Cadillac Ranch is a free art exhibit – and I really appreciate this. It makes the roadside exhibit accessible to all travelers and visitors.
It’s also a great place for families, as no one wants to pay admission for something your kids may only want to visit for 10 minutes.
2: Cadillac Ranch is open 24 hours a day
Although I recommend visiting Cadillac Ranch during the daytime, so you can see the cars easily, it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no ticket booth, so you just park and walk right in.
3: Spray painting the Cadillacs is encouraged
This wasn’t always the case, as originally the Cadillacs were just for show. However, now spray painting is encouraged, and definitely a fun part of any trip to Cadillac Ranch!
4: You can buy spray paint on site, or bring your own
When you arrive at Cadillac Ranch you will see a truck selling spray paint and small souvenirs. If you didn’t bring any spray paint of your own, you can purchase it on-site.
5: Often, there are leftover spray paint bottles available for use
When you visit Cadillac Ranch, you’ll likely be able to find a bunch of half-used spray paint bottles lying around. I wish there was a place that these could neatly be kept and stored, but they’ll likely just be on the ground. If you didn’t bring spray paint, and don’t want to buy any, these are a great option – although it’s not 100% guaranteed they’ll be available.
6: Coffee + Tea is available for purchase
The Caddy Shack Coffee Spot is a little camper-turned coffee shop right on property at Cadillac Ranch! You can get a variety of coffee and tea drinks, and is the perfect place to get some caffeine before continuing on your road trip.
7: Visiting and painting the Cadillacs takes about 20 minutes
Cadillac Ranch is a relatively quick stop, and is a great place to stretch your legs on a long road trip. Since the exhibit is free, you can spend as much or as little time as you would like checking out the Cadillacs.
8: There is lots of parking available
Cadillac Ranch has a private road area that is dedicated to parking! When I visited, there were plenty of parking spaces, and we were able to park very close to the entrance.
There is also parking available for RVs and larger vehicles.
9: There are no restrooms
Cadillac Ranch doesn’t have any restrooms. However, you’re just a few miles to Amarillo where there will be plenty of gas stations and coffee shops.
10: Clean up after yourself – and don’t spray paint the corn
This should go without saying, but pick up after yourself and don’t leave empty spray paint bottles on the ground. There is a trash can located right next to the Cadillacs, and please put your garbage there and not in the cornfield.
Cadillac Ranch is located directly next to a cornfield. When I visited, a lot of the corn was covered in spray paint, and that (obviously) isn’t good for it. A lot of the spray paint ends up on the corn due to the wind blowing while people are painting, but it’s clear that some visitors are also intentionally painting the corn.
Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas is such a quirky spot to add to any travel itinerary!

I love finding unique places like this to visit, especially when they’re free! I don’t think I’ve come across a site like this before though.
I’ve never heard of this before, but I love hearing about odd roadside attractions. And how cool is that that you can take part in the art of spraypaint!
Definitely a cool quirky stop! I love that it’s free and relatively easy to get to. Great tip about the spray paint cans being available to purchase or leftover too – wouldn’t have thought about that!
It is such a shame that some people spoil it by spraying corn and dumping their used spray cans around the ranch. Just because there is no price of admission, there is no reason to act that way! 😀
I had no idea there was a coffee shop there too. I like the idea of a cuppa while you watch people paint.
Gotta love free + the fact that it’s open all the time!! I’d love to check this place out and that’s cool that they actually encourage spray-painting — it’ll be different every time! 😛 That’s sad that people spraypaint the corn too though. :[
Cadillac Ranch is such a unique exhibit! Although, I do wish that people were much more concerned about the environment when visiting there and using the spray paint.
What a very fun sight to visit. And it is free too. I don’t normally carry spray paint with me to add my artistic touch to the Cadillacs. So good to know there are ways to get some when we arrive.
This definitely looks like a place our kids would love. Saving this for the next time we’re heading that way. Thanks for the tips!
I had no idea you could spray paint the cars at Cadillac Ranch! That might be worth a visit next time I’m in TX!
We had so much fun with our kids when we stopped there as well. We did learn that it’s best to have an extra set of shoes if you go after a rainy day. I’ve never seen mud so thick! Such a photogenic spot though and well worth a stop if you are in Amarillo!
So true!! The mud was so thick when we were there too!
Kind of wish all the cadillac were left in original condition without the spray painting 🎨 😢
