Hi everyone! Today, Maggie and I want to share with you some amazing black-owned businesses that you can support online. As everyone knows, currently there are protests across the U.S. as a result of the murder of George Floyd. Floyd was killed by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer in the Minneapolis Police Department. Unfortunately, these horrendous actions by police officers against the black community are not new – and neither are systematic inequality and injustice. During this time, Maggie and I have been educating ourselves about the Black Lives Matter movement, and we are learning what we can do to be allies and support the movement. Of course, this movement is about way more than police brutality, and Black Lives Matter is fighting for equality and justice for the black community. Below you will find a screenshot from the Black Lives Matter website, explaining the mission of the movement.
While researching ways that we can support the movement, Maggie and I came across numerous articles and social media posts explaining the importance of buying from black-owned businesses. There are so many reasons why it is important to support black-owned businesses – such as helping to close the racial wealth gap, supporting local economies and also supporting the creation of new jobs and opportunities. Below you will find a list of black-owned businesses to support today, and everyday.
